About Cosmic Volunteers

Established in 2001, Cosmic Volunteers is a secular Philadelphia-based 501(c)(3) charity that runs volunteering and internship programs abroad in 11 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Founder and Director Scott Burke started Cosmic Volunteers after serving as a volunteer English teacher in Nepal in the year 2000. He began by offering volunteer programs in Nepal then expanded to more than 15 countries, sending thousands of volunteers to communities abroad.

Our volunteers and interns serve abroad at schools, hospitals, community outreach programs, journalism companies, organic farms, HIV/AIDS groups, wildlife parks, women’s groups, and other organizations who ask us for assistance.

Participants stay from one week up to one year and come mainly from the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. They are students, career breakers, families, and retirees ranging in age from 11 to 70+.

We receive all of our funding from the program fees paid by our participants.
