Julie Steffler (Canada)
Medical Volunteer in Machakos, Kenya.
It started off with a dream of experiencing a medical system in
an underdeveloped location.
In Feb. 2006 I was lucky enough to go to the rural villages near
Machakos, Kenya. Two of my friends and I spent four weeks at the
Mutitu Dispensary assisting the lone nurse in providing basic medical
treatments and prescriptions to over 1,000 patients during our stay.
Living with our host family proved to be the best part of the experience
for myself. Being welcomed as a part of their community and seeing
first hand how different their everyday lives are from mine has
allowed me to gain a true appreciation for all I have. I am still
in contact with my host parents and the nurse we worked with.
I want to thank Cosmic Volunteers for allowing my dream to become
a reality.

"My month in Cuenca, Ecuador was irreplaceable.
The shelter, Casa de Maria Amor, opened my eyes to what these women
go through daily, and how strong in personality they have become."

"I also want to give a huge thanks to everyone
at Cosmic Volunteers. It couldn’t have been possible (obviously)
without your help. And to Scott, thank you also, for taking my phone
calls even when I was stressing. :]. So all in all, it was absolutely
wonderful. It meant so much to me and I truly will never forget
my time in Ghana. And actually, I’m hoping to be returning
to you all next summer with my sister! More...
