Nursing Volunteers in Limuru, Kenya, 2006
We are two student nurses from England and have just spent a month
at Tigoni sub District hospital. We chose Kenya so as we could experience
health provision within a developing country.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here, all the staff and the
matron have been friendly and accommodating to our learning needs.
We have spent time on both paediatric and maternity wards and have
delivered three babies [under supervision] which was one of the
highlights during our time here.
The placement organizers tailor made a program to our requirements
involving our safety the moment we arrived in Kenya. Our host family
opened up their home and allowed us to experience the Kenyan culture.
The Program Coordinator also arranged a four day safari to Maasai
Mara for an additional charge. We also had time and opportunity
to visit Mombasa and Nairobi.
The whole experience has opened our eyes to the needs of others
and will remain with us forever. We have had a chance to meet other
volunteers from different countries and shared experiences with
each other.
We highly recommend both Cosmic Volunteers and the hospital.
