Cosmic Volunteers Pays Tuition for Orphanage in India BANGALORE, INDIA August 03, 2004 -- Cosmic Volunteers donated over $200 (10,000 Indian rupees) to the Lovedale Little Woods orphanage in Bangalore, India on July 31, 2004. The donation was presented personally by Cosmic Volunteers' President Scott Burke during his two-week visit to India. The donation will cover the tuition costs for one month for the 24 children who live at the orphanage. The children attend school full-time at a local Catholic elementary school whithin the same rural village as Lovedale. "This is the least we can do for these kids," said Mr. Burke, who also met with the children's principal, a Catholic priest, during his visit. "Some of our participants ask us where their program fees go, and this relatively small but important donation to Lovedale is a good example - we often give donations to local organizations like [Lovedale] that are doing such great work for kids." Established in 2000, Lovedale is an Indian non-profit organization that provides a safe home for orphaned/abandoned children from infants up to 15 years of age. Lovedale provides the children with school tuition, meals, accommodations, and routine medical checkups for the children. Most of the children have been abandoned or have terminally ill parents. All of Lovedale's funds come from private donations. Lovedale also houses and cares for about a dozen elderly people, many abandoned by their children, many with disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.
