Participants in our healthcare volunteering programs in India have seen a lot over the years.
They have especially seen up close the challenges faced by India doctors and nurses, especially in rural and semi-rural areas where lack of medicines and equipment are common.
In 1991, the Impact India Foundation came up with a novel idea called the Lifeline Express — the world’s first hospital on a train.
Also known as the Magic Train of India, the Lifeline Express is celebrating 27 years of service to the poor and underprivileged masses of rural India.
The train is managed and funded by the Impact India Foundation, in partnership with Indian Railways.
The train has medically served more than 10,00,000 poor in rural India, restoring sight, movement, hearing and correction of cleft lips with dental and neurological treatment and more — all completely free of cost to patients.
The Lifeline Express is truly inspiring!
Remember, if you are a medical or nursing student, you can have your own inspiring experience while doing a healthcare internship in India with Cosmic Volunteers. Contact us today to ask how it all works.
