Teaching in the Rift Valley, Kenya
Summary
Teach at a primary school in a remote African village in Kenya's
ancient Rify Valley.
Program Description
Volunteers teach at government primary schools in the Rift Valley
outside of Nairobi. The students range in age from 6 to 16. At one
of the schools where we place volunteers, there are over 400 children
with 10 teachers and the principal. Some classes have more than
60 students for one teacher.
You can choose which age group you want to work with. For the younger
children, you can help them with conversational English, basic math,
arts & crafts, board games, playground games, sports like soccer
and running, music, and any other talents you wish to share.
For the older students, you can teach more formal subjects like
English, science, math, and history. The school schedule is Monday-Friday
from 8:30 am to 4 pm with a break for lunch as well as regular sports
periods. All classes are taught in English in Kenya.
